Attar is located in the heart of the beautiful Monadnock Region of Southern New Hampshire. Our family has called this place home for thirteen years. It never gets tiring driving the curvy country roads lined with moss covered stone walls and canopied with colorful Maples and Birch in the fall or the delight of hearing the anticipated sound of the peepers in the Spring. New England is brilliant and beautiful and every season holds so much delight.
Erik and I are happy to be raising our three children here, Myles(19), Eathan(12) and Autumn(10). We are fortunate that their grandparents live close by, just down the dirt road and across the field. As a family with three growing kids, we all cook a lot and they all eat a lot! Thankfully our family loves to cook and experiment in the kitchen and we always encourage that. It is never too early to teach the next generation about how to feed themselves, with real food, grown really well.
Our children are growing up within this family business of herbs and spices. They (and all of our extended family and friends) are always willing taste testers, recipe sharers and avid supporters. Myles, our oldest son, designed our new website...amazing, eh! Eathan is our capable photographer and videographer. He is always willing to shoot product photos and is lighting the fire under us to resume our Spice Up Life video series. Autumn can often be found in the kitchen whipping up a batch of some kind of deliciousness, usually while singing!
For myself (Melissa), growing up in the forests of rural NH have ignited a love and stewardship for the outdoors and all things green and growing from a very early age. Throughout the years, I have immersed myself with gardening, farming, learning about the culinary and medicinal properties of herbs and spices, plant identification, wild-crafting, and herbalism. Currently, I write a monthly column, The Spice Cupboard, for the Monadnock Ledger Transcript that highlights the everyday ways to use and infuse the power of herbs and spices into our everyday living. You can also follow our blog, The Spice Infused Life, where we explore all aspects of spices from cooking and the family meal to the myriad uses within the home.
